National Sports Campus Masterplan
Client: Sport Ireland
Duration: August 2019 – Ongoing
Project Summary
Transport Insights was commissioned by Sport Ireland in August 2019, as part of multi-disciplinary design team to develop a masterplan for the ca. 200 hectares National Sports Campus at Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. Within the lifetime of the Masterplan it is envisaged that the site will accommodate a new village centre, sports facilities (including stadia and sports arena), office and athletes’ accommodation etc.
Transport Insights provided mobility-related support, including comprehensive multi-modal accessibility analysis, demand analysis, overarching transport design principles to guide the Masterplan’s development, and led key transport stakeholder engagement activities.
Added Value Brought to Project
Transport Insights identified key accessibility related challenges and opportunities relating to the existing Campus, and how these attributes may evolve following delivery of planned transport schemes within its environs and the wider City. Current and future non-event and event-day transport demand was analysed to determine public transport capacity requirements, in addition to on-site car and bicycle parking facilities required to support the Masterplan’s delivery.
The Masterplan’s outputs will ultimately support the realisation of sustainable development within the Campus, and associated travel patterns.
