Allergan Car Park Expansion

Allergan Car Park Expansion

Client: Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland
Duration: July 2019 to Jan 2020

Project Summary

Transport Insights was commissioned by Allergan Pharmaceuticals in July 2019 to undertake a Traffic and Transport Assessment (TTA) in relation to the proposed expansion of on-site car parking facilities at its campus in Westport, County Mayo. The commission post-dated earlier transport engineering design support to Allergan, during which the overall campus layout was reviewed.

Key tasks to support this application included specification, commissioning and analysis of traffic survey collection covering the site and key junctions on the local and national road network to determine the need for and impact of the proposed additional car parking. Traffic impact analysis was informed by GIS analysis of Census 2016 population and travel to work data to establish traffic assignment patterns for development traffic.

The TTA analysed the impact of the proposed development in two scenarios, the current road network, and following completion of the planned N5 Westport Bypass, including an analysis of the impact on current and future N5 alignments.

Added Value Brought to Project

The TTA provided a strong rationale for the proposed expansion of on-site car parking facilities, and concluded that the expansion would not materially impact on the operation of the existing or future N5 road alignment.
