Ashford Studios Development
Client: Ashford Studio
Duration: 2016 – 2017
Project Summary
Transport Insights was commissioned by Ashford Studios in August 2016 to undertake a Traffic and Transport Assessment (TTA), and to prepare an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) Traffic and Transport Chapter in relation to a planning application to expand Ashford Studios in County Wicklow. The proposed development comprised of 65,000sqm of film studios buildings and a visitor centre on a ca. 27.8 hectares site, a new main vehicular access onto L5068; an emergency vehicular access onto R772; 848 car parking spaces, 101 coach parking spaces and new internal roads.
Key tasks included local authority scoping; a site assessment; traffic survey data collection and analysis; traffic growth forecasting; trip generation and distribution; junction traffic modelling and M11 capacity impact analysis; parking accumulation analysis; and production of an EIAR Traffic and Transport Chapter. Transport Insights also provided transport engineering design support to the site layout and proposed site access arrangements.
Added Value Brought to Project
Planning permission for the proposed development was finally granted by An Bord Pleanála in March 2019. Key to securing a successful planning outcome were local authority scoping, the production of high-quality transport engineering design drawings, comprehensive traffic impact analysis of the proposed development on the local, regional and national road network, and concisely setting out of the development transport rationale.
