N56 Falcarragh to Gortahork Road Scheme

N56 Falcarragh to Gortahork Road Scheme

Transport Insights is delighted to have been recently appointed by Donegal County Council, as part of the Fehily Timoney & Company Ltd/ Clandillon Civil Consulting Ltd Joint Venture (FTC), to provide modelling and appraisal support to the proposed realignment of a ca. 3km substandard section of the N56 and provision of new active travel infrastructure.

Located within the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht, the section of N56 forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way, a key strategic tourist route on the west coast of Ireland, and accommodates onward access to Donegal Airport in Carrickfinn and Udaras na Gaeltachta in Gweedore.

The proposed scheme will address a sub-standard section of the N56 between Falcarragh and Gortahork for all, including non-motorised road users (NMUs), and improve access to and between key towns in County Donegal. It will accommodate activity  tourism, contribute to a healthier society and support the local economy.

The current commission builds upon Transport Insights’ prior support to Phase 2 (Options Selection), and comprises Phases 3 (Design and Environmental Evaluation) and Phase 4 (Statutory Processes) of the project lifecycle.
