Service: Public Transport Planning

Public transport planning involves designing and optimising public transport systems to meet user needs, deliver wider societal benefits, and ensure their financial sustainability. Our team has extensive experience of both public transport infrastructure and service planning, including shuttle bus service provision, bus priority planning, bus terminus and depot planning, urban rapid transit/ metro and metropolitan rail schemes planning.

We also analyse the potential impact of development proposals on public transport networks, assessing the quantum of development than can be accommodated based on existing/ proposed service provision, and potential supplemental interventions to accommodate additional development-related passenger demand.

Key components of our service offer include:

  • Public transport boarding, alighting and ticketing data analysis
  • Public transport occupancy surveys’ specification, design and execution
  • General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) data analysis
  • National Public Transport Access Notes (NaPTAN) data analysis
  • Generalised travel cost analysis (public transport, car, comparative etc.)
  • Visualisation of outputs using GIS software
  • Passenger demand forecasting
  • Public transport capacity studies/ public transport capacity assessments
  • Developing and optimising routes (alignment and frequency)
  • Infrastructure planning (bus stops, bus termini and depots etc.)
