Sligo Active Travel Project

Sligo Active Travel Project

Client: Sligo County Council
Duration: November 2024 to February 2025

Project Summary

Transport Insights was commissioned by TOBIN Consulting Engineers, on behalf of Sligo County Council, to support the Sligo Active Travel Project within Sligo City Centre. The commission related to the development of a microsimulation model to assess the traffic impact of a proposed active travel scheme on the current one-way system within the City Centre.

Key activities included the quality review and analysis of traffic survey data, development of a microsimulation model using PTV Vissim software, and testing a number of scenarios to identify a preferred option which delivered greatest benefit to the local transport network.

Added Value Brought to Project

Execution of the commission was informed by both our knowledge of the National Transport Authority’s Regional Modelling System (NTA RMS) and advanced microsimulation modelling expertise. The approach pursued added significantly to the case for the scheme assessment by utilising relevant NTA West Regional Model outputs to increase the microsimulation model’s quality and provide greater confidence in the robustness of its outputs.
