Public Transport Capacity Assessments

Client: Multiple developers
Duration: June 2022, ongoing
Project Summary
Transport Insights has been commissioned by multiple developers to assess the capacity of existing and planned future public transport networks in accommodating development proposals. To date, the primary focus has related to Large-Scale Residential Development (LRD) and mixed-use development proposals within Dublin and the surrounding region.
The scope of the Public Transport Capacity Assessments (PTCAs) has included PT boarding, alighting and occupancy surveys, development trip generation analysis and assignment, and capacity assessment of the existing and planned public transport network. The assessments have considered singular or multiple public transport service types (bus, Luas and rail).
The capacity assessments have in instances been complemented by GIS isochrone analysis and the application of spatial/ accessibility analytics tools such as ATOS (Access to Opportunities and Services) and PTAL (Public Transport Accessibility Level).
Added Value Brought to Project
To date, Transport Insights has undertaken PTCAs for multiple development sites (incl. Ballsbridge, Drogheda, Dundrum, Kilcock, Maynooth, Northern Cross, Sandyford, Terenure and Cherrywood), demonstrating their appropriateness, and successfully supporting grants of planning permission.
