Westport Manufacturing Campus Car Park Expansion

Client: Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland
Duration: July 2019 to March 2024
Project Summary
Transport Insights was commissioned by Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland/ Abbvie in July 2019 and again in September 2023 to provide transport consultancy support in relation to proposed developments within its Westport, County Mayo Campus. Both proposed developments included additional car parking facilities.
The initial (2019) commission comprised a Traffic and Transport Assessment (TTA), which included the specification, commissioning and analysis of traffic survey data collection covering the site and key junctions on the local and national road network. Subsequent analysis determined the need for and impact of the proposed development on current and future N5 alignments, both of which were within the site’s environs. Planning permission was granted by Mayo County Council in January 2020.
The latter (2023) commission comprised a Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA), Mobility Management Plan (MMP) and Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) Traffic and Transport Chapter. The proposed development was subject to comprehensive analysis, demonstrating alignment with applicable local and national transport policy, and furthermore that it would not materially impact on the operation of the adjoining local and national (N5) road networks. Planning permission was granted by Mayo County Council in January 2025.
Added Value Brought to Project
Through both commissions, Transport Insights provided a robust evidence base in relation to the need for and impact of the proposed developments, demonstrated alignment with applicable local and national transport policy, and that they would not materially impact on the operation of the adjoining local and national road networks. Particular consideration was afforded to potential traffic impacts on the N5 Westport to Turlough Road Project which adjoins the Campus’ northern boundary and opened in June 2023. Both developments were granted planning permission by Mayo County Council, providing additional car parking facilities to meet the Campus’ current and future operational needs.
