Martin Junction Upgrade Completed

Transport Insights is delighted to have provided support to Galway City Council in its planning and design of the Martin Junction Upgrade, which is now substantially complete following the commissioning of traffic lights at the upgraded junction within the last week (14 June 2023).

The upgraded junction will provide a significantly improved environment for pedestrians and cyclists, and enhanced public transport facilities. In doing so, the junction upgrade will enable the sustainable future development of the Ardaun area, where up to 4,000 housing units are ultimately envisaged to be delivered in the future.

Transport Insights developed LinSig and Vissim microsimulation network models of Martin Junction and key local junctions on the national and regional road network, with the models used to assess the impact of the proposed junction upgrade on the operation of the road network. Modelling outputs were also used in refining the revised proposed junction layout. The Traffic and Transport Assessment Report produced by our team supported a successful application to the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF) for the project’s delivery.
