Mitchelstown Georgian Quarter Regeneration
Transport Insights is delighted to be partnering with REDscape Landscape & Urbanism (project lead) and TOBIN Consulting Engineers in providing transport planning support to Cork County Council as part of a multi-disciplinary team tasked with developing transformative plans for Mitchelstown Georgian Quarter, Co. Cork. The project is applying for funding through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund from the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The project is centered on four areas of Mitchelstown, namely, King’s Square, George’s Street, King’s Street and New Market Square. It seeks to conserve the town’s historical features while also providing public realm improvements to create enhanced spaces for town residents and visitors to work, live and socialise. One element of the project involves redesigning the existing streetscape at each location to provide improved active travel facilities (walking and cycling) and rebalance vehicle-dominated street layouts to encourage more sustainable travel behaviour. Part 8 public consultation was recently launched by Cork County Council in relation to the preferred project option, with all information published here.
